Prepare for thriving careers in media, journalism and integrated marketing communications.

The superior education and hands-on, real-world experience you will find in our degree programs – the Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, the Master of Arts in Journalism, the Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications and the Master of Science in Integrated Marketing Communication – allow you to understand the changing roles of media, journalism and integrated marketing communications from different perspectives while developing the multimedia and intellectual skills necessary to succeed in the professions.

Students also have the opportunity to immediately apply the skills learned in the classroom through internships on campus and around Oxford, or by gaining paid experience at the S. Gale Denley Student Media Center, where students can be published in The Daily Mississippian or The Ole Miss yearbook, gain on-air experience by reporting for NewsWatch or Rebel Radio, or get a glimpse of the business side of journalism by working for the student-run advertising division.

Our Mission

The mission of the School of Journalism and New Media is to lead and excel in educating students in journalism and integrated marketing communications. Grounded in truth, freedom of expression, responsibility and integrity, the faculty and staff will:

1.     Prepare students to succeed in an ever-changing, integrated and global media landscape.

2.     Encourage research and creative work to add to the body of knowledge and to serve the journalism and communication professions.

Our Strategic Plan

It features three priorities:

• Attract top talent – both students and faculty, who represent diverse viewpoints and groups;

• Inspire and engage students and the larger communications audience, either in the classroom or with the creative and scholarly work we produce; and

• Cultivate lifelong relationships with graduates and professionals.
