Meek School alumnus Ewert to conduct sports reporting workshop next week

Posted on: October 4th, 2018 by ldrucker

Meek School alumnus Terry Ewert will conduct a sports reporting workshop next week at the Meek School of Journalism and New Media.

Students interested in participating in Ewert’s workshop are asked to attend an interest meeting at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 in Farley 126. The will be asked to commit to covering the Oxford High School football game Friday, Oct. 12, and meeting again early Saturday afternoon. Ewert will share full details at the interest meeting Thursday.

Ewert is a television executive and producer who has received 13 national Emmy Awards; two national Headliner Awards for journalism; and one CINE Golden Eagle for long-form documentary production, according to his LinkedIn bio. As a senior production executive, he oversaw the $100-million production of Olympic Games and an entire network broadcast sports division.

“He loves Ole Miss, sports journalism and our students – not necessarily in that order,” said Dr. Debora Wenger, assistant dean. “He has an expertise that our students crave, and he is generous enough to give up his time. We hope Terry’s advice builds on the instruction students already receive in their classes and allows them to get mentoring from someone other than their professors.”

Ewert is the creator of a documentary series for the Discovery Channel called FutureCar. As an EP and producer, he successfully ran a company that has created and/or produced series and specials for Discovery, Live College Sports for the Big Ten Network, the Olympic Bid Committee for Chicago 2016.

He has directed specials for the Big Ten Network, ABC, NBC, Golf Channel (Michael Douglas & Friends Celebrity Golf) and FSN. The company has also produced digital marketing and promotional videos for clients of Porte Advertising, an ad agency in NYC.
