Internet Marketing Class Gets Real

Students in Prof. Jennifer Sadler’s internet marketing class held a standing exhibition in the Meek School of Journalism to bring awareness to the issue of affordable housing in Oxford.

As housing prices increase and affordable complexes for low income families, such as Riverside Apartments, are torn down, it creates a struggle for some residents to both live and work within the community.

Students were tasked with conducting interviews to produce community profiles. They printed flyers with interview highlights and stood throughout the school for one hour to encourage all who spoke with them to visit the Facebook page and become a part of a collective community voice.

Students are managing the We Say: Voices of LOU page as part of the class. The goal is to introduce social journalism and community responsibility to young adults.

“This whole thing is in partnership with the sociology and history departments,” said Sadler. “I’m working with faculty members there as they research archived data and take interviews from residents with their students. We are tasked with compiling that data and giving it to the public in an engaging way via social media.”

The project will conclude at the close of the semester and all are asked to follow the Facebook page to keep up with student news on the community.
