US Army Internships, Fort Knox, KY

Posted on: January 20th, 2016 by jasimmon

The U.S. Army Cadet Command at Fort Knox, KY has summer internship opportunities for journalism, photojournalism, social media, broadcasting and marketing students.  We are looking for 30 motivated students to cover ROTC Cadet summer training at Fort Knox from May thru August.  It is open to students who will be rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors.  Deadline for applications is February 26th.

Student’s direct supervisor for the internship is Mr. Richard Patterson, Deputy Chief of Public Affairs for Cadet Command.  Mr. Patterson has over 16 years of experience as a Public Affairs Officer for the US Army and recently retired from active duty as the former Deputy Chief of Army Public Affairs.

This is not a paid internship. However, students will be reimbursed for their travel expenses to and from their home and Fort Knox.  Additionally, they will receive a meal stipend to help cover costs for food.  There is an Army Dining Facility where interns may choose to eat.  Housing will be provided on Fort Knox at no cost to the students, living in two-, three-person rooms in Army barracks near the training area.   Students will be required to coordinate their travels thru the Cadet Command Public Affairs Office to ensure they will be reimbursed.  During field operations, interns will cover events in a variety of weather conditions.

All applicants must have a driver’s license, and should be reasonably fit to withstand demanding physical requirements of covering the training. While students may not be in the Army, they are expected to respect authority, to be drug-free during the summer, and to recognize the non-confrontational/investigative nature of their reporting.

Students will gain valuable experience, be supervised by experienced cadre, and have the  opportunity to interact with college students from across the nation who are training to become Army officers.  Likewise, this is an excellent opportunity for those who want to become a “military beat” reporter or work in the communications and marketing career field.

To apply, students can send their packets to richard.t.patterson2.civ@mail.mil. Packets will only be accepted electronically and should include a cover letter, resume, and demo DVD of recent work.

If students have questions concerning the internship feel free to contact Mr. Richard Patterson at the number or email below.
