Greg Brock, center, received the 2012 Silver Em from the University of Mississippi based on his outstanding career in journalism. Brock, senior editor for standards at The New York Times, came to Ole Miss from Crystal Springs, Miss., and graduated in 1975. During his acceptance, he mentioned that Dr. Jere Hoar, right, professor emeritus, was the first journalism professor he met at Ole Miss and among those who had a lasting influence on his work.
