Posted on: April 16th, 2012 by

Legendary photographer and journalist Dick Waterman will be the keynote speaker at the Seventh Annual Stuart Bullion Memorial Lecture, Friday April 20 at 8:00 a.m. at the Overby Auditoruim at the University of Mississippi.

Mr. Waterman was born in Plymouth, MA and is known worldwide as a writer, promoter and photographer “who has captured more musical lengends behind the glass frame that even he can count.”

Stuart Bullion was the chair of the department of Journalism at Ole Miss from 1997 until his untimely death in 2004.  The Bullion family and friends established the memorial lecture in journalism in 2005 to honor Stuart’s memory and to continue the tradition of the love of journalism that Stuart exhibited both as a professor and journalist.

Samir Husni, the chair of the Stuart Bullion Memorial Lecture committee, said that the focus of the lectures was, is and will continue to be on the role of journalism in today’s world.  “Every lecture is intended to add the body of knowledge of the field of journalism, a field that Stuart loved and cherished,” Husni added.

Former keynote speakers of the Stuart Bullion Memorial Lecture include Billy Morris, CEO of Morris Communications, Rick Stengel, Managing Editor of TIME and Chris Hedges, Pulitzer Prize Journalist.

The event is free and open to the public.
