FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Macey Baird has joined Franklin-based Sheridan Public Relations (SPR) as a staff associate, where she will assist with client projects across sectors as varied as conservation, higher education, manufacturing, residential construction, retail and tourism.

A native of Jackson, Miss., she graduated magna cum laude in May 2011 from the University of Mississippi with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism, an emphasis in public relations and a minor in English. As a member of the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, she successfully defended her senior thesis about social media’s impact on the magazine industry.

“Macey is a talented writer with a strong basis in public relations, and she brings a valuable new perspective to our practice,” said SPR President Jay Sheridan. “We are fortunate to have her on our team.”

While at Ole Miss, she wrote for the campus newspaper, The Daily Mississippian, and completed numerous internships.  During her time at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi, she contributed to the hospital’s 2011 health initiative and was selected as the student representative for the “Healthy You, Healthy L.O.U.” campaign designed to reach citizens in the Lafayette County, Oxford and University communities. She was also a founding committee member of Diversity Rocks, a campaign at the Meek School of Journalism & New Media to promote awareness of the problems caused by bullying of minority students.  Macey contributed several articles to Whatever Happened to Main Street, an in-depth magazine on Greenville, Miss., that was produced by students at the Meek School of Journalism & New Media.

As a member of the Chi Omega sorority, Macey served on the executive board over more than 300 women as the public relations chair, Panhellenic representative and recruitment secretary.

In 2010, she interned with Washington Life magazine in Washington, D.C., where she covered events and contributed feature articles, and with Birmingham, Ala.-based My Scoop, an online lifestyles publication.

Prior to SPR, Macey was a marketing and publicity assistant with Howard Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc., based in Brentwood, Tenn.
