Freshman freelancer among top Hearst winners

Freshman Ryan Rigney tied for 18th place in the Hearst Journalism Awards Program’s In-Depth Writing category. Ryan’s winning work was published in GamePro magazine. His article chronicles how the first successful video game from Iraq is the result of a project that began more than 17 years ago. There were 98 students from 57 universities who submitted in-depth writing entries.

The Meek School currently ranks in the Top 10 in accumulated student points for the Hearst writing competitions. The rankings, in order, are: Indiana University, University of Kansas, Arizona State, University of Missouri, Penn State, Northwestern University, University of Oregon and University of Iowa (tie), and University of Mississippi and University of Florida (tie).
